As a proud Durbanite, it makes me so happy to see brands from my hometown emerging onto the local scene. It makes me even happier when these brands are promoting a more sustainable and slow approach to fashion. One of these brands is XO, a new online accessories store. Founded by mother-daughter team, Karin, Natalie and Maxine, this brand aims to source and create effortless and unique adornments for those with a discerning eye. With backgrounds in fashion merchandising and photography, among other creative fields, it’s no wonder this powerful trio have managed to swiftly capture the eyes and hearts of many fashion enthusiasts including myself. XO designs and locally produces all their leather goods, importing small quantities of other elevated essentials, while remaining true to their slow-fashion model.
They endeavour to create and source versatile and timeless pieces, and are passionate about utilising local resources and talent as much as possible. Their items are produced in small capsule collections by small factories, whom they work very closely with to ensure attention to detail and quality. They also aim to reduce their environmental impact and encourage more conscious consumerism; ”Our vision as a brand is to find a balance within a handful of dualities, namely the Feminine and Masculine, Organic and Structured, Contemporary and Classic and finally Fast Fashion and Sustainability. Within these parameters we aim to bring our customers elevated essentials that can slide seamlessly into their existing wardrobes.”
This shopper bag provides both a stylish and functional space for me to keep more than just my phone and purse. In my desperate attempts to be more organised and prepared, acquiring a bag that can afford me the luxury of carrying my large DSLR, multiple notebooks, and future Macbook (a girl can dream), is worth it’s weight in gold in my humble opinion. Or at the very least, a bag full of lemons.

As if this bag couldn’t get any better, it comes with a small pouch that can be used as a purse that you can attach to the inner lining of the bag, or worn on it’s own as a sling bag. Genius!
